SLIPPING OR RPM FLARE
Engine speed rises without matching vehicle acceleration or the transmission struggles to hold a gear.
Slipping. Hard shifts. Delayed engagement. Shuddering. Maybe it feels like the transmission is trying to leave the chat entirely.
Gearhead Autoworks provides transmission diagnostics, fluid service, and complete transmission replacement for Wichita and Maize drivers.
Modern transmissions rely on mechanical components, hydraulic pressure, sensors, solenoids, modules, software strategies, and the correct fluid all working together.
An engine misfire can feel like a transmission shudder. A worn mount can make a normal gear engagement feel violent. Axles and driveline components can create vibrations that show up under the same conditions as transmission problems.
Replacing a transmission will not fix any of those.
You do not need to know which internal component failed before scheduling. Symptoms are enough to give us a starting point.
Engine speed rises without matching vehicle acceleration or the transmission struggles to hold a gear.
Banging, jerking, or unusually aggressive gear changes.
A noticeable delay before the vehicle moves after selecting Drive or Reverse.
Vibration under acceleration, cruising, or during gear changes.
Transmission warnings, check-engine lights, stored faults, or electronic control problems.
Low fluid, visible leaks, or concerns about fluid condition and transmission maintenance.
Evaluation of shifting concerns, transmission faults, fluid condition, electronic controls, and related drivetrain problems.
Fluid service using the correct specification and procedure when maintenance or vehicle condition supports it.
Complete transmission replacement when internal damage or repair economics make replacement the appropriate option.
Fresh fluid cannot rebuild worn clutch packs. A scan tool cannot tell us every mechanical failure happening inside a transmission. And replacing an entire unit will not repair an engine misfire, damaged mount, axle problem, or wiring fault.
We diagnose the problem, explain the realistic options, and perform complete transmission replacement when replacement is the repair that makes sense.
We put together a deeper explanation of common transmission symptoms, what can cause them, and why they do not automatically mean the transmission itself has failed.
READ: TRANSMISSION SLIPPING OR SHIFTING HARD? →Not necessarily. Slipping can be related to fluid, hydraulic pressure, electronic controls, internal wear, or other problems. Diagnosis determines the next step.
Sometimes incorrect or degraded fluid can affect operation, but fluid service is not a cure for every transmission problem. We recommend service based on the vehicle and what testing supports.
We do not rebuild transmissions in-house. We provide diagnostics, transmission service, and complete transmission replacement when appropriate.
No. Tell us what the vehicle is doing, when it happens, and whether anyone has already inspected or repaired it. We'll determine the proper starting point.
Slipping, banging into gear, delayed engagement, shuddering, leaking, or simply not driving the way it should?
Bring us the symptom. We'll start with what is actually true.
