Fuel System Diagnosis
Fuel pressure and volume testing, electrical circuit checks, scan-tool data review, fuel-trim analysis, and injector control testing as applicable to the vehicle.

Hard starts. Rough running. Hesitation. No-starts. We find the source. Then we fix it right.
Gasoline and diesel fuel-system testing and repairs, including fuel pumps, fuel injectors, fuel filters, pressure concerns, and fuel-delivery faults. No parts cannon. Just a proper diagnostic process.
Fuel Delivery Matters
A fuel-system problem can feel like an ignition issue, an electrical failure, or even a transmission concern. The symptoms overlap, which is why guessing gets expensive fast.
At Gearhead Autoworks, we look at the entire system—from electrical command and fuel delivery to pressure regulation and injector operation—before recommending repairs. Whether your vehicle needs a fuel filter, a fuel pump assembly, an injector, or something else entirely, we want the testing to tell the story.
What We Do
One system, several potential failure points. We offer targeted diagnosis and repair for common and complex fuel-delivery problems.
Fuel pressure and volume testing, electrical circuit checks, scan-tool data review, fuel-trim analysis, and injector control testing as applicable to the vehicle.
Diagnosis and replacement of in-tank fuel pumps, fuel pump modules, high-pressure gasoline pumps, and related components when testing confirms the fault.
Evaluation of clogged, leaking, restricted, or electrically faulty injectors, including port and gasoline direct-injection systems.
Service of replaceable gasoline and diesel fuel filters, including water-separator service where equipped. We follow vehicle-specific service requirements.
Testing of fuel pressure sensors, regulators, pump control modules, relays, wiring, and commanded fuel-delivery operation before parts are authorized.
Root-cause troubleshooting for long cranking, loss of power, rough idle, poor acceleration, misfires, and fuel-related check-engine lights.
Know the Warning Signs
Fuel problems don't always announce themselves with a fuel-system code. A weak pump, a pressure-control issue, a leaking injector, and a wiring fault can produce similar complaints.
Diesel Fuel Systems
Modern diesel common-rail systems operate under extremely high pressure. When a diesel struggles to start, runs poorly, or experiences fuel-pressure faults, proper testing matters for both repair accuracy and preventing additional damage.
Diagnosis of injector performance and control concerns, including appropriate balance, return-flow, and electrical testing where supported. Replacement procedures depend on the vehicle.
Evaluation of rail-pressure concerns, fuel supply, pump operation, pressure control, and possible contamination before recommending costly high-pressure repairs.
Testing and repair of low-pressure fuel supply concerns, including lift pumps, supply restrictions, air intrusion, and related electrical controls.
Replacement of serviceable fuel filters and water-separator components, plus investigation of fuel contamination and restrictions where applicable.
Diesel service and repair scope depend on the vehicle, system type, and diagnostic findings. High-pressure diesel systems require specialized handling, and some contamination events may require extensive component replacement.
Our Approach
Replacing a part without confirming the cause isn't a diagnosis. Here's how we approach fuel-system concerns.
We discuss the symptoms, operating conditions, and repair history, then confirm what the vehicle is doing.
We use appropriate diagnostic procedures, scan data, electrical tests, pressure tests, and service information to isolate the concern.
We show you the findings, recommend necessary work, obtain authorization, and verify the repair afterward.
Good Questions
Long cranking, stalling, hesitation, and no-start conditions may indicate a failing pump, but other problems can create similar symptoms. Fuel pressure and electrical testing help establish the actual cause.
Yes. Restricted, leaking, or incorrectly controlled injectors may cause misfires, rough idle, and hard starting. Ignition and mechanical problems can cause similar symptoms.
No. Some vehicles have external serviceable filters, while others integrate filtration into an in-tank assembly. Diesel vehicles commonly have serviceable fuel filters.
We evaluate diesel fuel-system concerns and determine diagnostic and repair options according to the specific vehicle, system, and equipment requirements.
Usually not. A code identifies a detected fault or operating condition, not necessarily the failed component. Additional testing is needed to determine the cause.
