Cooling System Repair in Wichita & Maize, KS

Your cooling system has one job: keep engine temperature under control. When something goes wrong, the symptoms can range from a small coolant leak to an overheating engine—and continuing to drive it can turn a manageable repair into major engine damage.

At Gearhead Autoworks, we diagnose cooling system problems to find the source before replacing parts. Whether your vehicle is losing coolant, running hot, leaking underneath, or showing a temperature warning, we’ll determine what’s actually happening and recommend the repair it needs.

Cooling System Problems We Diagnose & Repair

Cooling systems involve more than a radiator and a jug of coolant. A problem anywhere in the system can affect temperature control, coolant circulation, or system pressure.

We diagnose and repair:

  • Coolant leaks
  • Engine overheating
  • Radiator leaks and failures
  • Water pump problems
  • Thermostat failures
  • Cooling fan and fan-control problems
  • Radiator and coolant hoses
  • Expansion tanks and reservoirs
  • Heater-core and coolant-flow issues
  • Coolant temperature sensor problems
  • Cooling system pressure concerns
  • Contaminated or incorrect coolant

If the cause isn't obvious, we test it instead of guessing at it.

Losing Coolant? Find Out Where It's Going.

Not every coolant leak leaves a puddle on the ground.

Some leaks only occur when the cooling system is hot and pressurized. Others can evaporate on hot engine components, leak internally, or appear intermittently. Simply topping off the reservoir doesn't tell you why the coolant disappeared.

Depending on the symptoms, diagnosis may include cooling-system pressure testing, visual inspection, temperature and scan-data analysis, cooling-fan operation testing, and additional testing when an internal engine leak is suspected.

The goal is straightforward: find the source, then fix it right.

Fix What It Needs

If it needs a hose, water pump, radiator, thermostat, or another cooling system repair, we'll tell you.

If something else is causing the problem, we'll tell you that too.

The goal isn't to replace parts until the overheating stops. It's to identify the failure, repair it correctly, and help protect the engine from further damage.

Don't Ignore an Overheating Engine

An overheating warning or rising temperature gauge deserves attention. Continued operation at excessive temperature can damage cylinder heads, head gaskets, engine components, and other parts of the cooling system.

If your vehicle begins overheating, don't assume it simply “needs coolant.” Low coolant is often the result of another problem, not the cause itself.

Common warning signs include:

  • Temperature gauge running higher than normal
  • Overheating or temperature warning messages
  • Coolant smell
  • Coolant underneath the vehicle
  • Reservoir repeatedly becoming low
  • Heater suddenly blowing cold while the engine is hot
  • Cooling fans running excessively—or not running at all
  • Steam from under the hood
